This one is fascinating. I don't remember Kelly ever commenting on "Peanuts", but this is clearly a tribute: the rabbits Charlie and Schulz, and the references to both the football kicking routine and the "Great Rabbit" (for which read "Great Pumpkin"). I wonder if he ever put Schultz's name on one of Pogo's boats.
ReplyDeleteIf you like that, go over and click on The Pictorial Arts on My Blog List and when you get there, go way down to the bottom of the subjects list and click on Walt Kelly, and when you get there, scroll down a ways and you'll see a great Pogo page from Easter of 1964 that deals with Charlie and Schulz and the Great Rabbit as well.
